Protection

Protection is a working dog venue in which we test a dog’s temperament, courage and nerve. A protection dog is not a dog trained to bite – it is a dog trained to keep its desire to react to a threat in control until the appropriate moment, when the handler tells it to respond. Protection dog should never be outwardly aggressive, shy or unsocial. In fact, a dog that is trained in protection should be confident, social and stable and should never be nervous enough to perceive an average encounter as a threatening situation.

The WPBTCA’s protection routine puts a dog’s stability, sociability and courage to the test. We require that dogs competing in our protection events show that they are under owner control at all times.

The WPBTCA’s judging program is recognized by USA.
